Nothing beats the sublime beauty of a desert lake, its azure waters shimmering dreamily against the golden hues around it, green grasses waving invitingly in the breeze, beckoning to thirsty animals and weary travelers.
Lake Alexander, Alaska
Lake Alexander is accessible by 45-minute flight from Juneau on float plane or by canoe with portage from Mole Harbor which is 3.5 miles away from the lake. Lake Alexander maybe inaccessible in fall, winter, and early spring due to frozen lake surface, preventing float planes from landing on it. Normally there is no ice on the lake from mid-May through November.
Lake Alexander is part of the Cross Admiralty Canoe route. The water is clear and fish can be spotted easily with a good set of glasses, making Pike fishing enjoyable.
