Finger Lakes Activities for the Whole Family
The Finger Lakes are located in the beautiful wine region of central upstate New York. While this area is known for its expansive vineyards and wineries, there are a myriad of activities for the entire family to enjoy.
Educational Outings
Families with young children may want to pepper their vacation with visits to a few places that will offer some educational experience while still being fun and interesting for everyone involved. One such place would be the Corning Museum of Glass. Here, you and your family can learn about the history glass, which spans the last 35 decades, and you can even try glass blowing yourself....

Another option is a visit to Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, New York, where you will learn the history of flight, as it pertains to the Finger Lakes region. There are lots of hands-on opportunities for your children, and the gift shop offers a range of unique souvenirs and gifts.
Entertainment
Take the kids for a day of recreation at the Harris Hill Amusements, where you can spend the day racing go-carts, competing in miniature golf, and playing arcade games. This is a great place to help the kids find some focus when they start to get on each other's nerves, or on Mom's nerves.
From here, you can visit the Finger Lakes Scenic Railway, where you can ride the train. Enjoy the fall colors, the spring greenery, or take a special trip in December to visit Santa. Finish off your day by taking in a movie under the stars at the Finger Lakes Drive-In in Auburn, New York.
Outdoor Activities
Of course, if you are staying on one of the Finger Lakes, you already know that there are plenty of outdoor activities available, from swimming, to boating, to fishing. However, there are lots of other outdoor opportunities available in this diverse region as well.
There are activities for the whole family year round at the Cumming Nature Center in Naples. You can enjoy hiking in the spring, summer, and fall, and switch to cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the winter. There are miles of trails amid numerous forms of wildlife, offering you a day of exercise, fun, and adventure.
The largest water park in the Finger Lakes region is Roseland Waterpark in Canandaigua. Here you can enjoy a day of water slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers, or watch your children enjoy these activities while you sip and iced tea and enjoy a good book.

I had no clue New York also had a wine region, that's an interesting thing to know. It must be a great summer destination. However, I am thinking the season to enjoy the scenic location is quiet short.
