Why Lakes Are the Perfect Getaway
There's nothing quite like the peace and calm that you experience while sitting on the shore of a lake, staring out into the rippling waters, and thinking about absolutely nothing. With the economic times the way they are, any outing that can bring about this serenity is most welcomed, especially if it's one that costs you next to nothing. Here are a few reasons why lakes are, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the perfect getaway.

• They are usually closer than you think. There's typically no need to spend your savings on gas or to pack for a long trip, unless you'd prefer to visit a specific lake that is in another region, of course. There are any number of lakes in just about every state, so why not explore your own backyard, so to speak...you just might be surprised at how many lake day trips await you.
• There's an activity for everyone. Whether you prefer staying drying in a boat floating atop the water, or snorkeling its depths, lakes have something for just about everyone. Even if you don't own a canoe or other water craft, there are many lakes which offer rentals. If you're not very activity oriented, why not try simply reading a book or picnicking on the shore.
• They are inexpensive to visit. If there is a fee to park your car or RV at a lake site, then it's typically very inexpensive (possibly $5 for an automobile or $30 for some fully equipped RV camping grounds). Also, if you bring your own food and are a lover of hikes or other free activities, then your lake trip will come at a fraction of the cost of most other vacations.
• Get in touch with nature. With the hustle and bustle of daily life, most of us can easily forget just how beautiful and serene nature is. The mere act of losing yourself amidst the elements has the tendency to put things back in perspective and remind you of what is truly important.
If you're looking for something fun to do or a quick vacation and don't have a lot of time or money, why not simply pull out a map and find the nearest body of water. Whether it be for a rare chance at family bonding or to get some alone time, a lake provides the perfect getaway.

Nicely written concise piece about the lakes. The picture is amazing, I wish you guys would tag the picture so we know which lake it is. There is nothing like relaxing near a quiet peaceful lake, surrounded by mountains.
