West Point Lake, Georgia

West Point Lake is located on the Alabama-Georgia border just north of I-85. The 25,900-acre reservoir is an impoundment on Chattahoochee River stretching 35 miles with 525 miles of shoreline. The primary purpose of the lake is flood control and hydroelectric power generation, it also holds reserve water for release to help maintain navigable inland waterways on Chattahoochee River and the Apalachicola River that run from Columbus, Georgia, to the Gulf of Mexico.

West Point Lake became a popular recreational destination after it was created in 1975. It offers several recreational activities including fishing, camping, boating, swimming, water skiing, and picnicking. Only a portion of this lake is located in Alabama, many state parks are located on the Alabama's shorelines of the lake.

West Point Lake has a healthy population of largemouth bass, spotted bass, hybrid striped bass, white bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, and channel catfish offering exceptional fishing to both bank and boat anglers. Many fishing piers are located at the lake including at Hardley Creek, Rocky Point, and McGee Bridge Parks. Numerous access points are maintained and operated by The Corps of Engineers and other partners along this lake. Boater can find several boat ramps located at the lake to launch their boats. Alabama's side shoreline of the lake has countless campsites, playgrounds, picnic sites and other recreation facilities. Recreation areas offer campers several campgrounds ranging from modern campgrounds to primitive campsites.
