Battered and fried over a campfire, roasted whole on sticks, baked in hobo packets on hot coals—no matter how it’s fixed, freshly caught fish can be the highlight of a meal enjoyed after a day of successful fishing, that is, if the catch is properly cared for before cooking.
Lakes in Hawaii

Beautiful waters and cascading falls await lake enthusiasts on the islands of Hawaii. Kauai, a.k.a. the Garden Isle, is known for its waterfalls, complex waterways and rainforests. On Maui, visitors may swim in the tiered Pools of Oheo. Fed by waterfalls and streams, the pools are near the city of Hana in Oheo Gulch. The coral and stone fishponds on the island of Molokai are also well worth visiting. Built about 800 years ago along Molokai's southern coast, the ponds are a feat of ancient aquaculture engineering. One of the most famous and the easiest to find is Alii, located near One Alii Beach Park. For snorkelers, Hanauma Bay on the eastern tip of Oahu contains scores of colorful tropical fish and many reefs to explore. As part of a greater nature preserve, the bay area also has an education center complete with a theater and exhibits. |
