Lakes in Texas
Everything's bigger in Texas - even the number of choices for lake enthusiasts. Texas has hundreds of freshwater lakes. Some are wonderful for water sports. Others are excellent fishing holes. Pole fishers, for instance, will find community fishing lakes throughout the state.
Even in the city, fresh water isn't far away. In the panhandle near Wichita Falls, Lake Arrowhead offers premier white crappie fishing. In the Big Bend Region, the Amistad Reservoir on the Rio Grande near Del Rio is a great locale for bass and trout. Near Austin in the Texas Hill Country, the Walter E. Long Reservoir contains large populations of bluegill, bass and sunfish. In the South Texas Plains, Lake Casa Blanca offers excellent bass and catfish fishing near Laredo. Sheldon Lake in the Gulf Coast Region near Houston contains catfish and crappie. Near Texarkana in the Piney Woods Region, there's Write Patman. Many lakes are in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Lake Arlington.
